Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can't blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon figurehead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket, Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving command: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader—but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side

Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare. . . .

The Great Prophecy has started. Seven demigods, both Roman and Greek, are to travel to the place where it all started, a focus of civilization – Rome. Annabeth and Percy are finally together, and Percy and Jason have all their memories back, but their reunion isn’t going to go well for long. Argo II bombs New Rome and Greek demigods are accused of doing that. The chaos erupts and seven demigods are forced to flee on the Argo II and start their quest with angry Romans on their tail. Their main goal is to get to Rome and defeat twins anti-Dionysus giants: Otis and Ephialtes, who also hold their friend, son of Hades, Nico di Angelo. But Athena has other plans for her daughter. Annabeth had a talk with her half-crazy mother, stuck between her two godly forms, and Athena gave her a coin – the Mark of Athena. She is to follow it to Rome and go alone on a dangerous quest, one that has killed every child of Athena that has tried it so far – a search for Panatheon, Athena’s statue and source of power, long lost and never found.

Ancient goddess of the earth, Gaea, is awakening and gods are of no help, stuck in an endless confusion between their Greek and Roman form. The Seven have to put their talents together and be united now if they want to stop Gaea, save their friend, and end the conflict between two camps that have been going on for thousands of years.

So now that all seven characters from Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood are united, things are getting very very real. Story is told from perspectives of all five characters, and guess what, my least favorite one has the smallest chapter count (woo). I immensely enjoyed this read, as well as this world that just keeps getting better. For most part, I liked new characters, but no one will ever get to outrank Percy and Annabeth for me. I think I could read a hundred more books featuring them and never be enough. (That ending tho, my heart broke…)

“We're staying together," he promised. "You're not getting away from me. Never again.”

The plot thickens and our heroes are getting closer and closer to the part their gods fear the most – Gaea waking up. There are all kinds of things happening at once, especially when characters get separated, so intensity and action are always on a pretty high level. Percy is getting annoyed with gods and their behavior and his comments about that are probably the best thing ever xd. I’m just waiting for him to screw gods and go rogue because he had enough of their Greek/roman shit.
As I said before, I love humor in these books.
