Rick Riordan: The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus #1) | Lara

Jason has a problem.
He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper, and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret.
Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare about his being in trouble. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools.
When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about, and some camper who's gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Does this have anything to do with Jason's amnesia, or the fact that Leo keeps seeing ghosts?
“You must forge your own path for it to mean anything.”

Jason just woke up on a bus heading to the Wilderness Academy for the problematic kids, while holding cute girl’s hand. It would all be well except he has no recollections of getting there or knowing any of these people. In fact, he doesn’t remember anything from his life, at all. On their way there, things just keep getting weirder and more complicated - the bus is attacked by the wind spirits and they’re defended by their bloodthirst coach Hedge, who turns out to be a satyr. Jason, Piper – the girl he was holding hands with, and Leo find out they’re demigods when Annabeth comes to rescue them and bring them back to Camp Half-Blood. As they get claimed by their godly parent, new prophecies appear as well as indications for a new quest. Hera has been captured, and three demigods have to save her: a daughter of Aphrodite with a treacherous secret, son of Hephaestus who can summon fire, and son of Zeus, whose memories are slowly getting back. Also, Percy has gone missing three days ago, and Annabeth goes on a quest of her own to find him.

“Gaea?” Leo shook his head. “Isn’t that Mother Nature? She’s supposed to have, like, flowers in her hair and birds singing around her and dear and rabbits doing her laundry.”
“Leo, that’s Snow White,” Piper said.”

Ugh I am so happy to be back in this world of Percy Jackson and Greek mythology, plus now - roman mythology. I definitely did not see these books developing in this direction, but I absolutely loved it. With Jason’s lost and foggy memory, Riordan created kind of mysterious environment around Roman mythology and made things incredibly interesting. After the ending a few facts were brought up, ones that were incredibly important but also indications of how much this world is going to change.

Reading these books makes me feel like I was growing up again. I love how they got more serious, but never actually lost that note of childish innocence. These are just kinds of books that one can read whenever and wherever and always enjoy them. Unlike pjo series, Heroes of Olympus has multiple POV chapters and introduces a few new characters.

Jason and Piper had really good backgrounds and I liked how their relationship developed through the books (although I sense some drama with the mention of Reyna, whoops), but Leo Valdez definitely owned this book. I loved his dorky sarcastic comments and his inability to " deal with organic forms” longer than 2 minutes. These books just have the best sense of humor I’ll never get tired of it.

“I'm the son of Jupiter, I'm a child of Rome, consul to demigods, praetor of the First Legion. I slew the Trojan sea monster, I toppled the black throne of Kronos, and destroyed Titan Krios with my own hand. And now I'm going to destroy you Porphyrion, and feed you to your own wolves."
"Wow, dude," Leo muttered, "You been eating red meat?”
